Basic Fruit Smoothie

1 cup nondairy milk or orang juice
1 cup frozen fruit
1 frozen banana, broken into several pieces
2 tsp sweetener (optional)--sugar, stevia, honey, maple syrup, etc.
1 Tb ground flax seed (optional)

Blend all ingredients until smooth. Adjust ingredients for desired consistency.
 
Purple Monstrosity Smoothie
 
2 frozen bananas, broken into chunks
1/2 cup frozen blueberries
1 cup orange juice or soy milk
2 tsp honey or other sweetener (optional)
1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
 
Blend all ingredients until smooth. Adjust ingredients for desired consistency.



Peach-Pineapple Smoothie

1 cup nondairy milk or orange juice
1˝ cups frozen peach slices
1 cup fresh or canned pineapple
8-10 mandarin orange slices
˝ tsp minced fresh ginger (optional)

Blend all ingredients until smooth. Adjust ingredients for desired consistency.




Shields' Shakes

1 cup soy milk, vanilla or plain
1 frozen banana
1 small handful (9 or 10) almonds (or a Tb of almond butter for low power blenders)

Blend all ingredients until smooth. Adjust ingredients for desired consistency.



These smoothie recipes are simply a starting point. Mix and match ingredients to your taste. Try a wide variety of fruits in different combinations. Fruits may be used frozen or fresh. To freeze bananas, peel when ripe and put in a bag in the freezer at least overnight. Other fruits may be purchased frozen, or frozen from fresh. Depending on your blender, you may want to set out frozen fruit for 15-30 minutes before you make your smoothie, as this will allow for easier blending.
